Caistor Fisheries Fur and Feather

Caistor Fisheries held a rather late Fur and Feather on Sunday 11th March

With over 25 anglers pegged over ponds B + C there was still plenty of room for everyone. The wind up on pond B was bitter and the water resembled the North Sea rather than a pond. The draw took place at 8.00am after most anglers had had a hearty breakfast.

Pond B was very slow to start showing any fish whatsoever. The first Carp
was netted at about 10.00 by Steve Fegan in peg 14 using pole fished  maggot
close to the island. Darryl Warnes from Rotherham followed suit with a
reasonable Common Carp at just over 3lb shortly afterwards, once again  taken
on pole fished maggot tight to the island.
It was quite a different story on Pond C with fish showing from the start,

Mike Tuff into small Chublets on pole fished double bronze maggot from peg
 8. Mark Westerman went straight on the feeder using caster and also found
the Chublets. Karl Blackburn of Grimsby did likewise..
Back on Pond B everybody was finding the going very hard. Mike Rybakowski
from Caistor had a Carp at just over 2lb on ledgered worm at about
12.o'clock Steve Fegan picked up a a couple of smaller Carp again on pole
fished maggot. Darryl Warnes was not so lucky he lost 3 fish and then to  top
it cracked his no 8 section on his new pole.
Anglers on pond C kept chipping away with Bream and Chub. Mike Tuff was by
now showing the lead with a good 10lb of Chublets. Mark Allison was trying
hard but just couldnt find the fish.

The results of the free draw were as follows

 Jeff Newans Spanner Set
 Mike Kelly Halogen Lamp
 Darryl Warnes Tin of Chocolates
Stu Read Bottle of Smirnoff
 Mike Rybakowski Beer

Report for week ending 07/06/07

General

All ponds fishing very well at present even though the Carp are still cleaning off. The weather has been rather unpredictable but this has only caused problems with the cool stiff breezes and the pole anglers.

Pond A

Water level good with plenty of colour to the water. Pegs 4 and 5 taking carp to double figures on float fished maggot and worm, some good silver fish showing in pegs 1 and 10. Mr Ludkin from Halesowen had just under 100lb of mixed fish in a 10hr spell midweek. Floating baits are producing although the ducks can be a nuisance.

Pond B

Plenty of activity with Carp showing on the surface all the time, Alan Mcclurey from Scunthorpe fished peg 20. It was cold and windy to start with and the fishing was slow. It took over an hour of cup feeding over a pellet bait to get their heads down amongst the bait. Once they started it was continuous. Alan ended the day with over 70lb of fish. See AMC.jpeg1

Pond C

Still producing nets up to 60lb. The pole is producing well in the bay on caster and worm, pellet starting to pick up the bigger chub from pegs 3 and 17. Feeder tactics accounting for good nets of skimmers on maggot over chopped worm.

Wednesday Night Open results

1st Daniel Kelly 11lb 10 oz Peg 5, Pole fished pellet

2nd Steve Fegan 2lb 10 oz Peg 12 Pole fished pellet

3rd Mike Rybakowski 1lb 20z Ledgered maggot

Open matches are held every Wednesday Draw 17.30

Report Week ending 20/05/07

General

Weather has been very poor with strong winds and heavy rain although temperatures have been good. The fish are now well into the spawning period with plenty of activity in the reeds and margins.

Pond A

Still some good fishing coming out on ledgered corn from pegs 1 and 10. Silver fish scarce even in the bay area. Evenings has produced    a couple of 9lb Common Carp on floating dog biscuit.

Pond B

Pegs 19 and 7 seem to be the only constant hot pegs with Carp to 14lb on pole fished soft hooker (Strawberry) flavour. Tench still showing on ledgered corn from pegs 4 and 9 fished midway.

Pond C

Pegs 8 and 14 have produced 60lb nets this week on pole fished pellet, fished midway to the island. The nets were mainly Skimmers with the odd Chub and Barbel. Pegs 1 and 20 have had some reasonable nets of Chub on pole fished red maggot.

General

Rather poor weather with temperatures slightly down, fishing has been exceptional on the warmer days with 50lb mixed nets from B      and C pond. Pond C has shown to be more productive on the cooler days. Water levels still very good even with little or no rain.

Pond A

Some good Tench taken on pole fished redworm from pegs 2 and 5. Carp to 6lb on float fished red maggot from peg 4. Silver fish shy at present as spawning starts.

Pond B

Plenty of activity above the water and below Carp to 15lb from peg 6 on ledgered worm. Pegs 19/20 producing plenty of Carp around the 3-5lb mark. Good Tench from peg 8 on ledgered sweetcorn. Plenty of smaller fish surface feeding and just below. Big Carp showing signs of spawning in the reeds. Evening sessions producing the better catches from peg 18-4.

Pond C

Fishing very well from most pegs, pole or ledgered worm for Chub and Bream whilst the Barbel are still taking double red maggot. Pegs 10 and 11 producing some very good nets of skimmers all around 2lb on pole fished worm. Chub still tight to the islands. Barbel are on the move most times and will be caught at any peg. Kavener and Gray had a private match from pegs 12-20 Eric Altoft topped the match with 28lb on pole fished caster, 2nd was Kev Surfleet with 12lb 4oz and third was Roy Turner with 6lb 12oz.

Remember you need a current licence.

Evening matches commence June 6th

General

Higher daytime temperatures have improved the fishing for most anglers although there has been a couple of keen frosts early morning which got things off to a slow start. Water levels are at maximum and water colouring is very good.

Pond A

Pegs 2 and 3 have produced Carp up to 9lb on floating mixer biscuit. Maggot has taken some good sized Roach up to half a pound on   the float. A 5lb Tench was tempted to the net on double sweet corn on the pole from peg 8.

Pond B

Pegs 18-20 all producing well with Carp into double figures. The pole seems the best option with maggot or worm over chopped worm. Peg 4 has had some good nets with Carp to 6lb and Tench to 5lb. Early days yet for floating baits although the last couple of days have seen increased surface activity. Carl Blackburn from Grimsby fished peg 20 on a maggot feeder, using a 20 hook on 3lb bottom. He was well pleased with the results. (see cblack.jpeg)

Pond C

Still producing nets up to 50lb, most pegs producing fish. Daniel Kelly from Caistor picked peg 15 and fished the pole tight to the island under the overhang. Using fluros and white maggot he netted 16lb of Bream and Chub. (see dkelly.jpeg) Steve Fegan from Caistor       peg 14 started off on single pole fished maggot with limited success. He then decided to change to white single and tight to the island fishing very light. He finished the day with a mixed net of Bream,Barbel and Chub (see fegan.jpeg)

Reports for week ending 23 March 2007

General

The weather has been very poor for the start of this week, with a couple of sharp frosts, icy cold winds and 50mm of snow. Anglers were far and few between. The odd Carp was caught by those who did brave the elements. Ponds B and C showed   improvement towards the end of the week with Bream and Chub been taken from high numbered pegs on pole fished caster/worm.

The Bream seem to be holding in the bay pegs where the water is deeper, fished light and tight to the island.Small meat chunks have accounted for one or two Barbel. An odd couple of decent sized Perch have bee caught from B on float fished worm. There have been plenty of Ide and Goldfish on float fished maggot from pegs 4 & 5. Some larger Carp are taking off the surface but no reports of any being caught.

Reports for week ending 09/03/07

General

The weather has again determined the quality of the fishing. Water levels are extremley high. Early mornings are not being as productive as expected. The fish seem slow to start to feed.

 Pond A

Carp being very shy at present. Some good silver fish being caught on the pole from pegs 1 and 2. Maggot or worm seems the best. A couple of Tench to 4lb came out of peg 9 early evening to ledgered sweetcorn.

Pond B

Similar story, biggest Carp this week being a 9lb Common on pole fished worm from peg 6. Some fine Skimmers from pegs 2 and 4 on pole fished bronze maggot. The odd Tench from peg 11 on ledgered maggot. Some very big Perch showing from several pegs up to 3 1/2lb on ledgered worm.

Pond C

By best, producing well, the bay giving good nets of Skimmers to 35lb, whilst lower pegs holding good shoals of Chub. Barbel being rather choosey and keeping their heads down. Black caster seems to be amongst the best baits with meat cubes next.

Week ending 03/02/07

General

Not much improvement in the weather although the fishing has improved slightly. Water levels still very high with good colour in all ponds.

Pond A

Has produced several Carp to 6lb with plenty of small silver fish. White maggot or worm seems to be favourite.

Pond B

Some very large Carp showing on the top, several decent fish to 9lb taken on feedered maggot. The odd Tench showing on float fished worm from pegs 4,5 and 6. Always plenty of Bream and smaller silver fish in the margins. Barbel and Chub proving rather shy at the present.

Pond C

Plenty of Bream from pegs 7-12 on red maggot either on the pole or feeder. Pole fished black caster seems to be doing the trick with the Chub anywhere along the island edges. One or two Barbel have been caught to feedered maggot from pegs 15 and 17.

Report Week ending 23/02/07

General

Once again the weather has been somewhat unsettled. This has proved to be the governing factor to whether you will catch fish or not. With just a little sun you can expect some good Carp from either A or B. At one time when the temperature rose to 12 deg they were even feeding of the top. Maggot (red or white) still a definite with worm a good back up. Fish not taking protein baits.

C pond producing some good results from the pole anglers who are able to get tight to the islands.

The bay is still good for Bream but they do seem rather shy these last few days. White maggot seems favourite although Steve Fegan had a good days sport on pole fished red maggot from peg 8. His 6 hour session gave him a respectable 20lb net of Chub and Bream.  Daniel Kelley of Caistor along with cousin Josh had several fish on the feeder from pegs 12 and 6. Mostly on maggot.

Report Week ending 27/01/07

General

Weather conditions have been very changeable. A few keen frosts have kept water temperatures very cold. The sun has shown but has done little to warm things up. Water levels are well up

Pond A

Some good Rudd and Roach coming out of pegs 1 and 10 to pole fished maggot. Not much activity on the large Carp scene.

Pond B

Silver fish taken on maggot pole fished at 6m from pegs 3 and 6. The feeder seems to be the better option with Common Carp to 12lb on double maggot, tight to the island from peg 3. The odd Crucian from peg 18 on bread punch.

Pond C

Still producing nets of over 50lb in these conditions shows the potential of this pond. Pegs 7-14 are the favourites with 7 and 8 being the hotspots. Down size your bottom end to a 20/22 on a .8 hook length. Double maggot with a few loose to keep the interest going. The feeder has been producing better than the pole at present fished about .5m from the island in pegs 7 or 8. Don't over feed and keep the bank side activity to a minimum as they are easily spooked at this time of the year.

Report Week ending 14/10/06

General

Weather has been rather unsettled with only a few bright spells. Water levels are up to maximum. Natural baits unless the sun is out when a floating bait can do the business. Worm seems to be the main attraction in pond C whilst maggot has accounted for a few fair sized Carp in B pond.

Pond A

Silver fish still showing in peg 1 tight against the reeds on pole fished maggot. Plenty of surface activity during the warmer spells. Tench not showing at all.

Pond B

Pegs 19-20 producing Carp to 8lb on pole fished maggot. Several Barbel to 2lb from pegs 8 and 9 on ledgered worm. The margins are still worth a try for the odd larger Carp. Some good nets of Bream from pegs 4 on float fished worm over chopped worm and hemp. Nigel Wright from Leeds peg 4 had over 35lb mainly Bream with the odd Chub all taken on this method. "The bites were ever so slight" he remarked. Andy Price from Doncaster had several Carp to 6lb from peg 17 on pole fished caster, he fished tight to the island on an 18 hook, 2lb hook length. Mr Bare from Middlesborough had several large Carp on floating baits and also maggot from peg 19. (see bare.jpg)

Pond C

Most pegs producing mixed nets although the Bream are tending to stay well down in the deep water. Peg 14 accounting for net of upto 50lb of Barbel and Chub to pole fished maggot over chopped worm and hemp. The bay is fishing well but far out and once again maggot over chopped worm.

General

With not too many bad days of weather this fishing has remained fairly good for those who have fished and fed lightly. Floating bread accounting for some very good sized Carp in both A and B pond. Worm fished over chopped worm is still giving good results from C pond although the Bream seem to be rather shy at present. A few anglers are still not sticking to the groundbait rules. If they continue to pile the balls of groundbait into their swims the end result is that the water will turn sour. Before we allow this to happen, we will be forced to ban the use of groundbait altogether so dont spoil it for yourselves and everybody else, "Use your Common".

Pond A
Peg 1 proving to be very tricky with the silver fish taking the gear straight into the reeds. A few Tench showing from pegs 2 and 3 on float fished corn. Carp in the evening to a floating bait from pegs 6 and 7.

Pond B

Colin Green (Grimsby) peg 2  Fished bronze and red maggot straight on the the rod. Got straight into a 6lb12oz Common Carp (green.jpg). Colin had 8 other Commons around the 3lb mark plenty of small Perch and Roach and a couple of larger Barbel.
Stevie Snapper Atkinson (Hull) peg 7, As normal Snapper had a very late start, he fished alongside his old mate Steve Fegan. Snapper started off with a few little bits early on the feeder with red maggot upto the corner of the island. Steve Fegan was catching Carp one after the other so Snapper went over to see where he was going wrong as Steve had set Snapper's rig exactly the same as his. Within an instance Snapper had stepped on the end section of Steve's new £3000 pole, which was laying on the bank. Snapper got over this ordeal and went back to serious fishing and finished the day with a 40lb mixed bag.
Fred Cross (Grimsby) peg 19 took a beautiful 9lb Common on pole fished sweetcorn on a 2.5lb bottom. (cross.jpg) Fran Dagnall from Sheffield fishing peg 5 took this excellent 9lb Common on ledgered maggot. (dagnall.jpg)

Pond C

Lloyd McBride (Doncaster) peg 19 fished the pole to the island on red maggot. Good mixed bag of Chub and Skimmers.
Wayne Denford (peg 4) Fished the pole just under the ledge on the island on red maggot, he was rewarded with a 20lb net of Chub, Bream and Ide
Mick Crabtree (Grimsby) peg 14, After his 3rd consecutive day Mick managed to catch his first Barbel on red and white maggot fished tight to the island, by the end of the day he had a good net of Bream, Chub and a Barbel.
Dave Malins (Immingham) peg 15. Although Dave managed to win the Christian Salvesens Charity match he has still not managed to catch his first Barbel but saying that he had a good net of Chub and Bream on pole fished maggot over a bed of hemp and worm.

General

Very warm weather and good pond levels have produced several days of excellent fishing with B pond having feeding frenzy's late afternoon early evening. Some anglers are having poor results due to 2 main reasons-1/Overfeeding, these pegs are fished everyday, the fish don't want 10lb of groundbait in a lump, little and often will keep them interested. 2/Fish light this is not the North Sea, I have line that must be 25lb+ wrapped around ducks and my lawnmower also hooks that could be better suited to a crane! You will damage the fish and spoil your day. So please be sensible. As for the majority of our anglers, thankyou, enjoy your time here and keep up the good work.

Pond A
Excellent fishing from pegs 1,2,10. Floating bread will guarantee Carp Some good Roach from peg 1 but big fish are proving hard to keep out of the reeds. Sweetcorn has produced some good Tench on the feeder. Colin Robinson Peg 4 had 9 Carp to 4lb and was broken off on bigger fish. Pole fished bread/pellet.

Pond B
Dave Stembridge (Grimsby) managed to get down to some serious fishing, he had plenty of small stuff and at lunchtime I went up to see how he was doing. I adjusted his rig, and then he hit into a great Mirror Carp that just touched the 9lb mark. This beat Steve Fegan's best of the day who could only manage 8lb 12oz and was totally gutted. Although Steve did have a bag full of other fish. Peg 19 seems to have slowed down slightly and the fish seem to be moving around better. Some good sized Carp still coming out on pole fished pellet in the margins. Plenty of Bream and Barbel to pole and float fished baits.

Pond C
Good nets of Skimmers coming from the bay pegs to pole fished maggot and pellet. Chub and Barbel taking pole fished maggot/worm from pegs 2-5 and 16-19. Plenty of bites but they are very quick and fine. Feed small amount but often. Harry Coates from Retford fished peg 14. He was on the pole, using pellet and chopped worm he had a net of 54lb of mainly Skimmers with the odd Chub and Barbel.

Week ending 08/09/

General

Continued unsettled weather has affected the fishing slightly with pond B still rather slow to produce the bigger fish. Ponds A and C doing better mornings and evenings. Water levels are upto full capacity now.

Pond A
Pellet and sweetcorn accounting for some good sized Tench on the pole from pegs 2 and 3. Roach to 1lb and plenty of small Perch on maggot from pegs 1 and 12.  On calmer days floating baits, bread or dog biscuit picking up Carp to 8lb. Early evening has produced several good nets.
Pond B
The island is still holding the shoals of Carp although they seem reluctant to feed at times. The anglers who have persisted seem to have had sizeable fish but have worked hard for them. The hot peg being no 19. Pellet fished just on the ledge is still proving the best option. Larger fish being taken on the feeder with flavoured baits from pegs 4-9. Margin fishing can still produce some good nets. Daniel Kelly from Caistor is still proving to be an angler to be reckoned with he had several good Carp to 8lb from peg 19 on pole fished pellet as well as some very good sized Roach and Crucians. (kelly.jpg)

Pond C
Early morning has accounted for bags upto 50lb on pole fished pellet from pegs 7 and 8. Pellet fished to the island over chopped worm and hemp will keep the Skimmers in the swim. Barbel and Chub still being caught in good numbers from pegs 3-8 and 12 -17. Pole fished pellet or maggot tight to the island where possible or in the deep holes at the end. Fish light, size 18 on a 2lb bottom is sufficient. Do not overfeed.

Week ending 01/09

General

Very changeable weather has not really affected the fishing.  All ponds are fishing well mainly late afternoon to early evening being the best. Small Perch still being a nuisance Pond B pegs 14-17 when using maggot.

Pond A
Dave Staniland (Sheffield) fished Peg 1 tight to the reeds with catmeat. Carp to 4lb with plenty of bits and pieces.

Pond B
Declan Robinson (14yrs) Peg 15.  Proved that prawns are a good all round bait. They accounted for Tench and Carp to 4lb plus Ide to a 1lb. Phil Dunham had a good mixed bag using pole fished meat from Peg 10. Jeff Newans (peg 6) also had a good net full on pole fished meat/pellet. Shaun Smith had a 14lb 2oz Mirror on sweetcorn 5lb mainline fishing half way across, loose fed corn and pellet

Pond C
Tony O'Conner from Stalybridge Peg 17.  Pole fished red maggot over a bed of chopped worm to account for bag of just under 40lb, the bag was mainly made up of Chub.
Big Gordon (Upton) from Birmingham used the method feeder to net a good bag of Bream and Barbel from peg 4 in just a few hours. Kevin Price (Stalybridge) pole fished worm and sweetcorn mid water to net just over 30lb of Skimmers.

Week ending 11/08

General

Continued unsettled weather has affected the fishing slightly with pond B producing best during the day and ponds A and C doing better mornings and evenings. Water levels are up to full capacity now.

Pond A
Pellet accounting for some good sized Tench  Marzena Polejowska (Poland) had Tench to 4lb on pole fished pellet. Roach to 1lb and plenty of small Perch on maggot from peg 3.  Daniel Kelly (Caistor) had Mirror Carp to 8lb on pole fished pellet from peg 4.

Pond B
The island is still holding the shoals of Carp with the hot peg being no 19. Pellet fished just on the ledge has proven itself with Darryl Warnes from Rotherham taking over 60lb of Carp in one session. (see darryl2.jpeg) and (darryl3.jpeg) Plenty of single large fish being taken on the feeder with flavoured meat from pegs  4-9. Michael Burns (Grimsby) peg 11, took an 8lb Common with a few other bits on worm and sweet corn on the rod. Steve Atkinson of Hull caught several excellent Carp from peg 7 using sweetcorn on the ledger. (see acko.jpeg)

Pond C
Early morning has accounted for bags upto 40lb on pole fished pellet from pegs 7 and 8. Pellet fished midway  at 5m over chopped worm and hemp will keep the Skimmers feeding but as soon as the Barbel move in the Skimmers tend to move into deeper water. Darryl Warnes from Rotherham fished peg 9 to take over 45lb of Bream and Barbel on pellet and would have been well on the way to beat the pond record had he not lost his top two sections to a fish. (see darryl4.jpeg)

The weather has been very changeable with prolonged periods of heavy rain. The water levels have risen quite well and we are now back to 85% capacity. The keep net ban has been lifted on all ponds. Although anglers are still having to be reminded to dip both keep nets and landing nets.

Pond A

As conditions have improved so has the fishing. With plenty of double figured Carp being taken around the lily pads and reeds. Maggot still the favourite bait. Floating baits still catching. Tench to sweetcorn and worm from pegs 1 and 6 on the pole. Good size Tench showing to sweetcorn early morning from pegs 6 and 7 on the pole.

Pond B
Some good sized Crucians showing although day time fishing has been rather patchy. Pellet accounting for the bigger fish especially peg 18 - 1. Daniel Kelly from Caistor took this fine 9lb Common on pole fished pellet.

Pond C
Darren Copley (Grimsby) peg 20.
A night fishing session brought a 60lb plus net of mainly Barbel. Taken on the pole with worm or maggot tight to the reeds.
Ben Hobbins (Rothwell) peg 1
Over 40lb of Barbel and Bream taken on pole fished jelly pellets, once again fished tight  to the reeds.

Please ensure you have a current rod licence and keep the banks tidy.

Week ending 28/07/06

General

Water levels starting to rise steadily now as new waters from the recent downpours are entering from the springs and beck. The temperatures have been high with stiff breezes at times.

Pond A
Some cracking Tench to sweetcorn from pegs 2 and 4 on the rod whilst silver fish have been slightly more illusive. Carp have been rather fussy during the day buy late evening has accounted for Commons upto 9lb on floating baits.

Pond B
The Carp have been taking surface baits. Some very good Crucians from peg 19 and 20 on pole fished maggot on size 18 hook, tight to the island 4" over depth. Float fished bread accounting for Tench upto 4lb plus. Some decent Commons to 10lb being taken on ledgered pellet from pegs 4 and 5. The water level has risen about 18" and this seems to have given the fish enthusiasm for feeding.
Pond C
Throughout all the poor conditions Pond C has never stopped producing although midday has often been the time to relax until the intense heat and sun dropped away slightly. Plenty of Chub and Barbel from low and high numbers whilst the bream have stayed up in the bay.

Keep net ban still in force for all ponds except matches.

Why Why Why !!!!

Once again the mindless few have darkened our doorstep, the ladies showers were vandalised on Friday night/Saturday morning. Causing a few hundred pounds worth of damage. We have been notified by a colleague that fish from our fishery have been offered to other fisheries. This has resulted in extra CCTV's being installed, keep nets being banned temporarily although low water levels have also been a factor in this issue. True anglers and fishery owners must keep united on these issues because at the end of the day these villains are not bothered about the damage they do to buildings or fish stocks. The Environment agency are working hard to try prevent these thefts and illegal transfers of fish. They increase the chances of diseases being spread and also the increase in dayticket costs but they do need our help.

General

Excessive heat has resulted in low water levels. The fish have been feeding but large Carp have avoided the hottest hours of the day which has resulted in early morning and evening sessions producing the larger fish to surface baits.

Pond A

Plenty of Tench to 2lb from pegs 2 and 5. Taken on float fished sweetcorn. Evening sessions producing Carp to 9lb on floating mixer and bread. Weed can be a slight problem in pegs 5 and 6. Silver fish very slow.

Pond B

Pretty much the same story with better fish being caught early morning and evening. Some good Crucians coming from pegs 9-12 to pole fished maggot. Tench to feedered corn on pegs 5 and 6. Worm still taking good sized Bream and Roach on light gear from most pegs. Tony Green and his son from Leicester had several good sized Carp on floating crust and dog biscuit, the largest being just under 10lb.

Pond C

Plenty of Chub and Bream from low numbered pegs on double coloured maggot fished just off the island. Barbel and Bream from deeper pegs to pole fished pellet or maggot. Not as many heavy bags over the last week but we have put this down to the low water and high temperatures rather than the theft of fish.

We are offering a reward to anyone supplying information leading to the prosecution of persons caught stealing fish or causing malicious damage.

The continuing dry spell as lowered water levels even more. We have had to place a temporary keepnet ban on Pond C to minimise fish loss. The fish are still feeding well although during extreme sunny periods the larger Carp spend more time basking. Maggot and pellet still producing better catches of Carp and Bream but sweetcorn seems to be the Tench favourite in pond A. As from 1st August 2006 Caravans will be available for rent.

Pond A
Plenty of action here with many double figure Carp being taken on pellet or floating mixer. Some good Tench  upto 3lb from Daniel Kelly in peg 4 on sweetcorn with plenty of small Perch to maggot

Pond B
With levels down 15" the fish seem to have come away from the island into the gully. Steve Johnson from Hull had a 50lb mixed bag from peg 11 all taken on pellet and red worm. Steve was on the pole at about  7 metres. Steve Fegan fished peg 19 Wednesday pm, he caught 2 Carp tight to the island, it then went quiet so Steve came away from the island about 5ft and then it all began with Bream to 2lb Carp to 5lb and then a Mirror that topped the scales at 12lb. Steve continued fishing and was soon into a "monster" that took him half way around the pound and then snapped his hook length. By 9.oclock Steve had caught over 60lb fish.

Pond C
Oxygen levels have dropped slightly with the lack of water. The Barbel are not feeding as hard as normal. Bream nets upto 50lb from pegs 8-11. Jeff Newans from Grimsby excelled  with a 45lb net of mainly Bream and Chub all taken on worm from peg 11. Young Daniel Kelly from Caistor could not wait to get back from his holiday in Spain to get his gear out again. He fished peg 2 late evening and was catching chublets one chuck after another.

Please remember to dip your nets and take your litter home

General

Excessive temperatures and low water levels have done nothing to deter the fishing. Floating baits early to late evening are producing Carp to 18lb from Pond B and 12lb from Pond A. Red maggot and worm still a good option in all ponds, with pellet and sweet corn producing 50lb+ of Bream and Tench.

Pond A
Peg 5 produced several fish into double figures on strawberry flavoured floating crust. Best method seems to be to only flavour one piece out of several or use dog biscuits and one piece of crust as the hook bait. Silver fish still spawning in the reeds, some good sized Roach taken to float fished maggot from peg 1.  Mick Tuplin from Grimsby had a brilliant Carp well into double figures but unfortunately when his mate tried to help him land it, over eagerness paid the penalty.

Pond B

HOT SPOT PEG 19!!
Steve Fegan from Caistor took just 6 hours to net 66lb of fish all taken on pole fished pellet tight to the island. He had Carp to 8lb and Tench to 4lb with several Crucians all above 2lb. (see fegan66.jpeg)
Jeff Newans from Grimsby came for a couple of hours after tea. He fished the pole tight to the ledge on the island, In the first hour he had 9 Common Carp totalling over 40lb and within the next hour another 6 and 4 Tench the largest being just under 5lb. Mark Skid Allison from Caistor took Carp to 8lb on ledgered maggot/sweet corn (see skid.jpeg) Daryl Warnes from Sheffield had a fantastic mixed net of 60lb  including Crucians to just under 3lb and Commons to 8lb, once again on pole fished pellet on the island ledge.(see crucian.jpeg)

Pond C
Pegs 9-12 have been producing bags of Bream unto 80lb. Most fish being taken on either pole fished red maggot/worm. Plenty of Chub and Barbel from the shallower island pegs. Small Ide proving to be a nuisance when anglers are over feeding the swims.

General

Water levels still down considering a couple of really heavy evenings of rain. The temperatures have been high with stiff breezes at times.

Pond A

Some very good Crucians from peg 19 and 20 on pole fished maggot on size 18 hook, tight to the island 4" over depth. Float fished bVacanciesread accounting for Tench upto 4lb plus. Some decent Commons to 10lb being taken on ledgered pellet from pegs 4 and 5.(see Carpb.jpeg)

Week ending 23/06/06

The weather has been rather unsettled with strong winds towards the end of the week making pole fishing rather difficult and uncomfortable. Plenty of surface action. Water levels are slightly down although this has not affected the fishing.

Pond A
Plenty of silver fish from pegs 1,2 and 12. Tench falling to float fished sweet corn from pegs 4 and 10. Floating biscuit and crust accounting for 6lb Carp plus late evening. Tony Malloy from Liverpool had over 11 Carp all above 5lb to floating tactics from peg 7.
Pond B
Steve Fegan from Caistor fishing peg 19 tight to the island had a fantastic 4 hr session with over 66lb. Using green low protein pellet as loose feed and 3.5mm soft pellet on the hook it was just non stop. Pegs 6,7,8 still producing great mixed bags to feeder.
Pond C
Geoff Maiden peg 14 Had a bag of just under 40lb consisting of mainly Bream and Barbel. Using a size 16 hook fished 2ft over depth on red and white maggot. (maidens.jpeg)

General
The weather has been mostly hot and humid apart from a couple of very heavy thunderstorms. Fishing  has been good with Pond C still providing the best catches. The fish have stopped spawning and have got down to serious feeding. Quite a lot of late afternoon basking in Pond B during prolonged sunshine. Maggot and pellet producing well all round although floating baits still accounting for the bigger Carp.

Pond A
Pegs 1 and 10 providing catches to 30lb of Roach and Rudd with the occasional 3lb+ Tench. The pole fished tight to the reeds with maggot or pellet on an 18-20 fished slightly over depth seems to be this weeks tactics. Small amounts of loose feed. Small fish can be a problem if you over feed on maggot.
Pond B
Hot Pegs this week 6,7,8 and 19 with some anglers now telephoning to reserve pegs. Carp to 16lb on pellet from peg 16 fished 8-9m out. Chopped worm in the cup will keep their interest although the bigger fish are cruising about. Pellet producing nets of Bream to 20lb from peg 4. On the pole fished 2-4in over depth. Once again fish and feed light. Peg 5 produced some great fishing for local angler Lee Hanson (Caistor) he caught several good sized Carp on ledgered bread. His total weight was just under 40lb (see carp. jpeg)
Pond C
With all the hot weather we have installed an aerator in the bay, whilst some anglers may feel this spoils the fishing the results prove different. even so it is a must in spells of hot weather especially for the Barbel. Peg 20 produced a 16lb net of Barbel for Kevin Kitchen of Immingham, fishing tight to the reeds on meat.
A re visit from Matthew Brandon of Lincoln to peg 9 gave him a 35lb+ net of Bream. Matthew fished midway between the bank and island on an 18 hook and 3lb bottom. Single maggot.
Carl Blackburn from Grimsby produced a fine bag of just under 20lb from peg 5. The net was made up of Bream and Barbel taken on the feeder between the islands using brown crumb in the feeder with a mix of maggot and castor and white maggot on the hook (see carl. jpeg).
Darryl Warnes from Rotherham in peg 9 took 24lb of Bream from just a few feet from the bank on triple red maggot (see warnes.jpeg),

Baits are now available on site, these include maggots, worms, pellets, paste, meat, sweetcorn and cat food. Please note that landing nets are to be used at all times on all fish.

Pegs 9-12 for the Barbel

What a night . Steve Fegan fished peg 10 for an all nighter.
He put no feed into the swim except for a few loose fed red and white maggots.
The session began Saturday at about 7pm.
A few Skimmers were quickly to the net with an odd Barbel and Ide until about 11pm.
When all hell let loose.
It was just Barbel after Barbel all taken on double red maggot if the bait remained
in the water without a bite for more than a couple of minutes you knew you had lost a
maggot. Singles and trebles just didnt work.
Steve pole fished to a distance of 11m with a nite light pole float on no 5
elastic with a size 20 hook to 2lb bottom, fished 2" laid on. It was literally non
stop till daylight when it just went quiet. Steve totalled out at
at 62lb of fish which were nearly all Barbel.(see. stevefegan.jpeg)
Dean Hanson also from Caistor fished peg 11 and managed e net of over 25lb of mainly Barbel but with a few more Skimmers.
Peg 9 also produced a net of 30lb+ for Darrell Warnes from Maltby.

Mark Mathews from Manchester who was staying on site with his parents had a cracking Mirror at just under 14lb from peg 6. The fish took a 10mm boillie fished with a pva bag. (see markmathews.jpeg)

Mike Newman from Grimsby fished peg 10. He opted for pole fished paste as his bait and was well rewarded with a mixed net of over 42lb of mixed fish, with Carp upto 8lb. Mike said" he was getting plenty of fish around the 10m mark up tight to the island but the larger fish were all from the 5m mark. (see mikenewman.jpeg)

Eric Altoft on Pond C peg 19 had a net of over 50lb of mixed Carp, Chub and Bream fishing pellet tight to the island on a 16 hook.

Reports for week ending 19/05/06The silver fish seem to be rather shy with all the activity from the Carp and Tench. One angler fishing peg 9 had a mixed net of over 40lb of Carp and Tench. The Carp all fell to waggler fished bread laid on about 4 inches on a size 14 hook while the larger Tench fell to double sweetcorn. Pellet is still attracting good fish during the day whilst evenings are still producing large Carp to floating baits.

Pond B

Most baits are catching fish. Pegs 18-20 on the pole tight to the island have produced so good mixed nets. Local angler Mark (Skid) Allison who recently returned back to Caistor had a storming day with over 50lb of fish. Mostly taken on the quivver as the weather made the pole hard work. He fished pellet and worm on a size 16 with a small drennan feeder to the edge of the island on peg 7. He tried supplement his catch by fishing the margins with a whip at the same time although this cost him as many fish as the whip produced  I reckon. On the two occasions I went around the pond he had fish on both and landed none. Plenty Crucians upto 2lb have been taken from pegs 8-12 these have been mainly on the pole with worm lightly fished.

Pond C

Caistor Fisheries w/e 3/03/06

For the few brave souls that have ventured out to the fishing ponds over the last few weeks the results have been inconsistent to say the least. The only thing that has been consistent is the weather, for the most part cold and windy with some snow, sleet and rain and several days when the ponds have been frozen over. We have had plenty of visits from anglers who are happy to walk round the ponds and plan their fishing sessions for when the weather improves, which hopefully will not be too much longer. In the meantime to keep you all in touch with the performance of  our ponds this is what has been caught lately.

POND A

The most sheltered of our 3 ponds has not seen a lot of activity as it tends to freeze over quite quickly during the winter. Roach and perch have been coming out of this pond mainly to red maggot and castor from pegs 1, 2 and 3.

POND B

This pond has been fished the most during the winter and has produced some good catches {see photos}. Mirror and common carp into double figures, taken on red maggot, castor and sweet corn plus good roach and barbell. Pole fishing to the island still seems to be the favoured location with pegs 1 to 8 doing well.

 POND C

The Barbel, Chub and Skimmers have been showing throughout the winter and have kept some of our anglers busy for a few hours. Once again maggot and castor fished to the islands have produced the best nets. The quiver tip has produced fish when the wind has been too strong for the pole.

Sunday October 2nd

After several slow days Shaun Smith from Cleethorpes decided to waken things up with the beautiful 15lb plus Mirror Carp. Caught from peg 19 Pond B. Shaun had been loose feeding small carp pellets and using catmeat on a size 16 tied direct to 5lb line. He was fishing tight to the island.

Weekly Fishing Reports for w/e 05/08/05

A few heavy showers to spoil a couple of days but apart from that the weather has been average for this time of year. Water levels in Pond C have dropped slightly but this has not affected the fishing.

Pond A
Plenty of fair sized commons on pole with pellet and corn, pegs 1 and 10 producing best fished just off bottom tight to the reeds. Floating dog biscuit producing bigger fish late evening or early morning. peg 12 has also produced some good Carp to float fished luncheon meat.

Pond B
All pegs seem to be producing good mixed nets and larger fish. Late evening and early morning still best. One or two big Tench being tempted on maggot around 15-17 pegs. Good nets of Crucians, Skimmers and Chub coming out of peg 12 to meat fished lightly over fishmeal mixture. (see prowse187.jpeg) tutti-frutti was the flavour of the day for Andy MCarthur from Grimsby who had Carp to 7lb on the feeder.
Now the school holidays are upon us it's great to see the fisherman of tomorrow wetting their nets. Louis Volley of Grimsby who night fished peg 14 had an excellent night with Carp upto 6lb on maggot. Harry Davidson from Broughton aged 8 had his very first experience of fishing and what a day brilliant sunshine and plenty of fish. Perch galore with a few odd Roach all to single white maggot on the pole.(see davidson.jpeg)

Pond C
Still plenty of fish to be had from most pegs although the hot pegs over the last week have all been from 14-18. Maggot producing well fished tight to the island. As the water temperature has increased the Skimmers are now being tempted by paste baits. Allan Fannon of Grimsby was into a Skimmer a chuck using pole fished paste in peg 12. Graham Rouse of Westlands AC managed to get stuck into a goon mixed net of Skimmers and Chub using half a worm tipped with maggot pole fished tight to the island from peg 12. Phil Sheldon of Brigg had a cracking day with a 45lb net of Barbel, Skimmers and the odd Chub from peg 16 on double maggot fished tight to the island.

Caistor Fisheries weekly reports for w/e 15/07

The temperatures have been extreme this last week with very little rain. Some  fish seem to be  still cleaning off after spawning.
Night fishing on pond A and B has been very productive with plenty of doubles showing in both ponds. Favourite baits in A are still white maggot and castor on the pole. While B has had the larger fish on floating mixer biscuit. High numbered pegs on B for big bags against the island. The waggler catching on pegs 8 and 9 just off the island tip.
Pond C has produced some great catches over the last week with 20lb in a few hours being notched up by several anglers. High numbered pegs along the back  seem to be producing best with maggot fished tight to the island. The bay pegs seem to have slowed right down now with the bream shoaling in the shallow waters. Chub still to be caught along pegs 2-6 on most baits.

Weekly Fishing Reports for w/e 08/07/05

Once again a total mixture of weather yet the fishing seems to be less affected than the anglers.

Pond A

Some very large Carp topping, plenty of smaller fish to most baits, with maggot still providing best results.

Andy Cunningham (Hull) peg 2.
Tench to 4lb on pole fished corn to the right of the reed beds, plenty of silver fish on pole fished maggot as tight to the reeds as possible. Andy had a top weight of 38lb 7oz for a 6 hour session.
Clive Simpson (Hessle) peg 12
Clive pole fished to the reeds on an 20 hook feeding chopped worm and maggot as bait. Plenty of Roach to 1lb and Rudd just under the 1lb. Get the bait down quickly to avoid the Perch.

Pond B

Large Carp tending to shoal around the pump peg and the island.
Dave Collins  (Barton) peg 20
This hot peg still leading the way, Dave fished tight to the island on a 20 hook to 2lb  bottom  laid on about 4." Several larger fish lost on this light rig but Dave had 7 Common to 11lb and 4 Mirrors to 14lb. Large lumps of home made paste for bait with just a few natural expanders fed now and then. Over 25lb of bits n pieces.
Neil Topliss (Grimsby) peg 4
Tench to 4lb, Carp to 7lb and plenty of smaller silver fish all to float fished double red maggot about 3 rod lengths out.

Pond C

Water levels are up slightly and these seems to have livened the Chub up with a large shoal cruising around both early am and late pm. Pellet seems to be producing well.
Dave Mundey (Brigg) peg 18
Plenty of Barbel and Bream on pole fished single maggot.
Dave Greaves (Scunthorpe) peg 7
Pole fished single maggot to the edge of the island netted a total of 37lb of silver fish, mainly Chub and Bream with several Barbel as well.
