Report for week ending 24th January 2010
General
Well as we are all aware the weather has not been very favourable for fishing but for some of those hardy enough to try the rewards have been great. All ponds are high with good colour in all but D but this was the last to thaw with over 9" of ice at one stage. Plant growth has died back some cover is at a minimum.
Pond A Whilst maintanance work is being carried out around pegs 4 and 5 this does not seem to have affected the fishing. Some good nets of Roach and Rudd coming from pegs 1 and 2 to pole fished worm tails. Plenty of small Perch to maggot and worm. Distinct lack of Carp.
Pond B Night fishing has accounted for a few good Chub and Bream but the Carp have been elusive through the night. Different story for day ticket anglers. Stu Hewson of Barnetby had a good mixed bag to about 30lb on pole fished 4mm natural pellet, feeding micro pellet. Peg 1. Best fish of the week was a joint issue with Stuart Colebrook from Rothwell - 14 years old - caught a Common of 15lb on single hi-viz boilie. Stuart has only just begun fishing and is being coached by his mate George Emms 17 years old also from Rothwell. George also had a 15lb Common caught on light gear with 3 maggots on a size 12 hook with a cage feeder of groundbait and maggots. Fishing to the near side of the island in the margins. George attends Caistor Grammar 6th form and has been fishing for a while, he told me that he intends to take up match fishing in the near future as well as showing Stuart the ropes.
Pond C For those who have tried this pond they have found the going very hard in deed. With just a few skimmers and Ide to show for their endevours. Odd report of Barbel bites but none to the net.
Pond D Has been fished by 2 rods only since the thaw. One blanked and the other had a dozen or so fish on maggot and small red pinkies on the pole.

General
The weather has changed dramatically over the last couple of days, this seemed to put off the anglers but not the fish. All pond levels are high with good colour.
Pond A
Some good sized Roach coming out of pegs 1 &10 to worm and maggot. Small perch can be a nuisance at times. Odd Carp being caught but nothing to write home about.
Pond B
Ide to 2lb in a frenzy at the moment, being caught up in the water or down on the bottom. Castor, chopped worm and hemp proving to be a favourite at the moment. Nets of 50/60lb coming out of pegs 20,1,2 and 13. Carp on the scarce side with an odd one to 7lb been taken on worm. Pellets and floating baits have not proved efficient. Plenty of Skimmers. Roach and Rudd to similar tactics but starting to be rather choosey.
Pond C
Here again this silver fish pond have not showed any adverse effects from the sudden change in weather. Carl Blackburn from Grimsby having nets of 40lb on two occasions and Local spiv Steve Fegan topping the week with 63lb of Ide and Barbel from peg 7 all caught on caster and chopped worm. Danny Blastland from Grimsby has had steady nets of Bream and Ide from Peg 3 on pole fished maggot.
Pond D
All species still being caught, Some good Barbel and Bream to 3lb. Plenty of silvers with Carp still feeling hungry. Pegs 14 + 15 producing the best nets of Ide whilst pegs 4+5 giving overall weights of up to 50lb. The pole is still the ideal method weather permitting with castor over chopped worm and hemp.

Bank Holiday Weekend
For once the weather did not spoil the Bank Holiday too much. There were plenty of people fishing with plenty of bait going in. This obviously had a negative effect on the fishing. There were plenty of small stuff coming out of Pond A & B to maggot and corn either on the pole or the rod. Pond C proved to be very slow with nobody having a really good day despite the megga efforts. Pond D was slightly better with some good Barbel falling to ledgered meat and corn. Chub to 2lb were taken from pegs 15 on float fished maggot.
Andy Allen from Cleethorpes decided to try his luck in the margins on pond B peg 3. He loose fed his swim with hemp and corn. There were plenty of bubbles and activity when his float went under and steamed off, after a 35minute ordeal he landed the largest Carp to come out of B this season at 19lb 4oz. Shortly after this he had another one on the bank at 18lb 6oz to the same method. Then somebody stood on the first section of his pole, which really spoilt a great days fishing. See pics on current
Please remember when you are moving around the ponds to take extra care for peoples tackle and belongings.

General
Weather variable with some good spells of bright sunshine, winds rather on the strong side and obviously having some effect on fishing. Water levels high with good colour.
Pond A
Peg 5 Producing Carp to 9lb on sweetcorn, with good bags of silver fish to worm over chopped worm and hemp.
Pond B
Good sized Carp to 12lb from island pegs on ledgered worm, 6mm pellet producing good all round nets of mixed fish from pegs 1,2 and 4,5. Cubed luncheon meat has accounted for some good sided bags of Carp from 19 and 20 but over feeding will quickly kill the swim. Danny Kelly (Caistor) fished peg 7 and took 45lb on the method with sweetcorn as the hook bait.
Pond C Danny Daniels from Salford topped 40lb of skimmers from peg 16, fishing maggot to the island. Brother in law Pauls was not far behind with 33lb on the same tacticts. Most pegs have been producing although those using red maggot has seen better catches.
