Once again we held our Bonfire Night Party, the weather was excellent and so was the turnout. The night started with the lighting of the bonfire at about 19.00hrs on Saturday 3/11/07. The top of the fire was decorated by the guy sat playing a derelict Hammond organ . The fireworks were lit from 19.30pm and what a splendid show they put on for everyone. The finale was to large display fireworks being placed on the rowing boat and sent to the middle of the pond. Afterwards most of the spectators retreated to the cafe for chips, hamburgers, hot dogs and baked potatoes and refreshments but a few did just sit around the fire and chat. We would like to thank everyone who assisted us especially Jeff Barratt who was on hand as our First Aider in the event of an accident and to Rob and Pauline. September 4th Pond D The latest pond at Caistor Fisheries has now been opened to residents and matches. It has been stocked with a good head of Bream, Chub, Barbel all to 2-3lb. Common and Mirror Carp to 2lb along with Roach, Rudd and Tench to 2lb. A further stocking of Roach and Tench will be carried out in early Spring. There are 22 pegs 12 are on pontoons and the rest on a good flat bank. Depths vary from 1.5m in the margins to 4m in the gullies and holes. Vegetation is a bit scarce at the moment although the lily clump in the middle has taken hold and is always a centre of activity on the warmer days. Bookings can be arranged on 01472 852032 or email info@caistorfisheries.co.uk Thursday 16th August Pond C To try and find an environmentally friendly option to the excessive Bream fry in pond C we have introduced 100 Brown Trout. These fish are expected to eat twice their own body weight in food per year. The fish were all about 10-12" long and about just over half a pound. So not only is it hoped they will keep on top of overcrowding they should also make for some fine Winter fishing also. Please note that these fish are not to be placed in keep nets except in matches organized by the fishery. Monday 29 January 2007 We carried out a "bio mass" survey on all three ponds to ascertain fish stock density. The results from Pond A were what we expected with plenty of Carp both Mirrors, Common and Crucians. There was of course too many small Perch. There were silver fish to about 1lb. No Tench were taken in the survey although at this time of the year they are noted for being well down in the mud. The surprises came from Ponds B and C. As this was the first time any of us had attempted the use of a net for catching fish apart from my years spent on a trawler, we did not really expect the first attempt or second to that point to be very successful. Were we in for a shock !!. As we pulled the net to the banks we thought that it was mud in the net that was causing the drag, well there was at least 500lb of mixed fish along with thousands of small Bream fry. The fry were removed to our new pond D. There were Perch to over 3lb, Crucians to 2lb, Mirror Carp to 15lb.
09/09/06 Well pond "D" is under way with the purchase of a couple of old machines the job will take slightly longer but it can be done at our speed, once Rob learns to drive one of them. The sand is being placed on the first paddock as you enter the site. This is to level it up for further development at a later time. The new pond will be a designated "Match Pond" We will be stocking it with the normal species including Barbel and Chub but we will be trying to keep the fish all of similar size to give better match conditions. There will be ample room bank side for you pole fisherman as well as ample parking in the car park we are constructing.
21/04/06 Well we are coming up to the next Bank holiday and things are not far off complete. The shower block is almost there. All the electrics and water for tent and caravan pitches are in and connected. The Cafe is in full fling. The boys from YEDL and NEDL did their best to get our new 3 phase supply up and running but it seems they have at least one idiot left who can make a hash of things. A big sorry to Mike Blain the engineer whose 100% record was broken on this job, it wasn't your fault Mike, your gang and you did all you could. You are all a credit to your company and others could do to follow suit. 01/03/06 Well the groundworks are well over 50% complete, the cabling is all in and work has begun on the showers and cafe. The booking are starting to come in and we are all looking forward to Easter when all things being equal we will be all completed and open. 31/01/06 Well the tank is in and all the associated drainage. The roadways are now taking shape. The new cabling for the hook ups and site lighting are being put in place as well as the fresh water mains supply. 21/12/05 As the fisherman thin out we thought that this would be the best time to avoid major disturbance. The trenches for the drains, sewers and electrics start to be excavated and the pipe work goes in. The roadways will be next. The large tank to hold all the surface and foul water is ready to be inserted once we beat the running sands. This tank will have to be emptied periodically but at least we can be assured that there will be no chance of contamination. Well things are starting to take shape, we have started construction of the roadways into the camping area. The temporary shower block will be arriving next week (21/09/05). This will consist of separate ladies and gents showers (with hot water) there will be extra toilets and hand washing facilities in both, these facilities will be free of charge to campers, caravaners and cabin guests. The unit is also centrally heated . There will also be a laundry room which will have washing ,drying and dishwashing facilities. These will be chargeable. We will endeavor to cause as little inconvenience to all our visitors whilst we improve our site. Please bear with us these improvements are to benefit everybody not just ourselves. We are currently constructing a cafe, toilets and showers. We will also be building 4 log cabins . Some of the details for these can be viewed above and below.
